Parametric Phenomena in Superconducting Quantum Devices
Abstract
The most obvious way to excite a harmonic oscillator is to give it a kick: exert a force to bring it into motion. But what if, like a kid on a swing, you cannot push yourself: can you still create motion? Using a superconducting “kid on a swing”, we will explore spontaneous motion, chaotic behaviour, and a new parametric coupling in circuit QED that will enable mechanical probes of the incompatibility of quantum mechanics and general relativity.
