Title
Georges Charpak - The Man
Abstract
My teacher, colleague and friend Georges Charpak, 1992 Nobel laureate in Physics, was an outstanding scientist and a great humanist. His wire-chamber detectors have revolutionized scientific research in Particle Physics for many decades and have impacted many other domains including medical imaging. He was also involved in disarmament efforts, fought for human rights, and lately proposed novel “hands on” science-teaching methods for young children. Georges was a man of great intuition, a rich sense of humor and passion for life: music, arts and good wine. I will convey to you some personal aspects of our long cooperation.
