Levitated mechanical sensors for dark matter and neutrinos  

Abstract

The control and measurement of massive objects using light has revolutionized the detection of tiny forces in recent years. I will describe experiments using optically levitated sensors to search for dark matter, and to detect the “kick” from the decay of a single radioactive nucleus within the sensor. Such techniques promise to enable a variety of new searches at the precision frontier of nuclear and particle physics.
