Many Body Localization and the Breakdown of Ergodicity in Quantum Systems
Abstract
Thermalization is a dynamical process in which accessible quantum information is irretrievably lost to inaccessible highly non-local degrees of freedom. Can such a sad classical fate be avoided in generic quantum systems? In this colloquium I will review recent progress in understanding the quantum phenomenon of many-body localization as the only known generic exception to thermalization.
