Title
Quantum Hall Physics with Rapidly Rotating Quantum Gases
Abstract
The equivalence between neutral particles under rotation and charged particles in a magnetic field relates phenomena as diverse as spinning atomic nuclei, weather patterns, and the quantum Hall effect. Rapidly rotating quantum gases provide a pristine realization of interacting topological quantum matter. I will describe recent experiments creating Bose-Einstein condensates in the lowest Landau level. We reveal their interaction-driven instability towards crystallization into droplet arrays, which we show to be a quantum analogue of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability of counterflowing liquids.
