Title
Physics meets Medicine: Mechanically Responsive Nanocontainers for Targeted Drug Delivery
Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. Instead of a patient's 60,000-miles-long blood vessel system being flooded entirely with a drug, we have proposed a targeted therapy by exploiting physical triggers. Dedicated containers about 100 nm in diameter carry the drug to disease-induced constrictions, where the mechanical stimuli give rise to the drug release and the related widening of the diseased artery segments.
