Title
Einstein and Pauli: Not all Great Minds Think Alike
Abstract
Albert Einstein (1879-1955) and Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958) were born a generation apart. Disregarding their contributions in physics, in itself a daring and treasonable offense, we will examine their forceful views on issues of public and private matters over their lifetimes to map similarities and contrasts in what we may call their respective Weltanschauungen. On the basis of 130 letters written by Pauli to a confidant that have only recently been discovered and gleanings from the volumes of the Einstein Papers that cover Einstein’s “Swiss years” (1896-1914), we have an abundance of evidence on which to draw.
