Title

Nanomechanical devices in fluid with applications to atomic and molecular sensing

Abstract

The miniaturization of mechanical devices has enabled major advances in nano-science, including atomic-resolution surface imaging, single-molecule inertial mass detection, and the monitoring of biological activity in liquid. I will discuss our work exploring the physics of nanomechanical 100nm devices, including their fluid-structure interaction, the propulsion of nanoparticles in acoustic fields, and measurement of the Navier slip condition in liquid.
