Unconventional magnetism: the emergence of nodal altermagnetism and beyond

Abstract

Altermagnetism is a third new class of collinear magnetic order with zero net magnetization but with unconventional spin-polarized d(g/i)-wave band structure in reciprocal space. They combine the favorable spintronics properties of ferromagnets and antiferromagnets while also having unique properties of their own. Via their novel functionalities, they provide the first science-based physical viable path towards THz magnetic technology (THz-TMR), leading to a thousandfold increase in efficiency over present ferromagnetic based systems. Many recent experiments have verified the predicted new class of materials and their functionalities.
