Title

How Particle Theorists Can Help With Gravitational-Wave Predictio

Abstract

The detection of gravitational waves has opened a new window into the cosmos. Particle theorists can help out with high-precision calculations of effective Hamiltonians for predicting gravitational-wave emission from compact astrophysical objects. Recent years have seen a revolution in our ability to compute scattering amplitudes in quantum gravity. We explain how these advances can be harnessed using modern ideas in effective field theory to calculate new and difficult to obtain general-relativity corrections to the problem of black-hole and neutron star inspirals.
